After three more people got stuck in the mud on Purbeck beaches over the weekend, Purbeck District Council is repeating its plea that people take notice of the warning signs.
Councillor Barry
Quinn, Deputy Leader of Purbeck District Council said: “It is distressing to hear that people are
still ignoring the warnings and getting stuck in the mud on Purbeck’s
beaches.
“Being half-term
week, people are understandably out and enjoying Purbeck. However, some areas of beaches have become
very dangerous following recent landslips.
“We are pleading
with people to take notice of the warning signs, use common sense and keep away
from the mud-strewn parts of our beaches.
“Mud which has
fallen as a result of the landslips is causing a form of quicksand on the
beaches. This really is serious business, take notice of the signage and use
your common sense.
“Come to
Purbeck, enjoy the area but don’t put yourselves or your family in danger.”
On Friday, a
walker was rescued from Swanage beach by Dorset Fire and Rescue Service and HM
Coastguard after ignoring the warning signs and getting stranded in the mud.
Further
incidents occurred over the weekend at Lulworth Cove and Chapman’s Pool.
