Please find below details about the Olympic flame which were made public today.  If you scroll down the list, you will see it is visiting some parts of Purbeck on 13 July!

On 27 July 2012 the eyes of the world will be on the UK as the Olympic flame arrives to signify the start of the London 2012 Games.

The flame will make its journey from Greece arriving in the UK at Land’s End on 18 May 2012, ready for the Olympic Torch Relay to begin the following day.

Angus Campbell, Chairman of the Dorset Olympic Board, said “This is a great opportunity for communities across Dorset to touch the spirit of the games and showcase our remarkable county on the world stage”.

Howard Legg, Weymouth & Portland Borough Council’s Brief Holder for the Olympics said “As the largest venue outside of London, it’s only right that local people get the opportunity to be involved with this unique event in the borough and today’s announcement about the Torch Relay is fantastic news.  It promises to be a grand occasion.”

Details of the route between towns/villages/communities and timing will be announced in 2012.  In the meantime, to encourage the participation of communities, the Dorset Olympic Board at its meeting on the 7 October approved a proposal to organise a workshop for parishes/towns/community groups along the route to advise and encourage their support for this once-in-a-lifetime event.  This workshop will be held before the end of the year and representatives from across the county will be invited to attend.
